ICC rules out window for IPL

The ICC will not consider creating an official window for the IPL in its Future Tours Programme, according to the outgoing ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat. The issue of clashing schedules has been apparent since the IPL began in 2008 and refuses to disappear, with this year's tournament forcing West Indies players to choose between the IPL and their home Test series against Australia.

As much as I despise the IPL, I think it would be good for cricket if we had a window for it.

Yeah it could lead to a domino affect, but the BBL and the IPL are really the only "big" T20 leagues.

It's very subjective. He's not rating the best batsmen in his era, he's rating the batsmen he found it most difficult to bowl too. I was watching the one about Flower, and he was saying about how Andy took his bouncer out of the equation, making therefore giving him less options as a bowler.

Warne's top 100 cricketers were no different. He was rating it on how players had performed with and against him, hence him rating people like Brett Lee, above Waqar and Donal, and Mark Waugh above people like Kallis and Dravid.

But other boards will get jealous. If you create A separate league for the IPL, the ECB, BCB, SLCB will all get jealous and want one themselves. It's no doubt IMO, that a separate window for the English T20 league will increase interest in it. I know the game I watched last night would have seen more interest had Broad and Swann been in it.

Our league is fairly good, it just doesn't have the same amount of international starts. We all saw how the likes of Somerset competed in the Champions League, despite having their best 2 players out for the whole tournament, and they even beat KKR without there best 4 players. I also remember a final day where Nottingshire's bowling line up was: Sidebottom, Nannes, Broad, Swann and Samit Patel (4 bowlers who featured in the World T20 final a few months earlier) and they lost. I think all the strongest counties would give the IPL teams a run for their money, especially if they could have as many overseas players.

There's just a lot of restrictions on it. England players are rarely available due to a packed international schedule, teams are only allowed 2 overseas players, and for some reason India don't allow their players to play in it

I know they were thinking about doing an IPL like tournament, but it never came about. There's still desire to do it from the players though so it's not too late for it too come about.

Counties aren't rich enough to attract the huge names though, especially those who play international cricket. That's why you never get the Watson's, Mussey's, Steyn's, de Villiers', the Jaywardene's etc...

I don't expect Jesse to have heard of me too much. I have a reasonably intelligent audience

Can't wait for tomorrow to play some cricket on the matted pitch again. This time I'll try and take some pics (at least of the pitch and outfield, if nothing else).
