IPL 2012: Team of the Year

What do you think the team of the IPL should be? I'm going to do one with no overseas restrictions, and one with them.

    No overseas restrictions:

    Chris Gayle
    Faf du Plessis
    Gautam Gambhir
    Kevin Pietersen
    AB de Villiers
    Shane Watson
    Steven Smith
    Dale Steyn
    Morne Morkel
    Sunil Narine
    Lasith Malinga

    Overseas restrictions:

    Virender Sehwag
    Rahane
    Gautam Gambhir
    Shane Watson
    AB de Villiers
    Rohit Sharma
    Ambati Rayudu
    Dale Stey
    Parvinder Awana
    Balaji
    Sunil Narine

Gayle misses out due to the balance of the team. Much more Indian openers than quality middle order bats and keepers. If you think I'm going to include Gayle, forcing me to include Dhoni instead of AB or Irfan Pathan instead of Watson then your bonkers.

    You're fun.

Does that mean Jonny Biarstow is in your world test XI? I mean I know he's better than Tendulkar, but is he a better all rounder than Kallis?

I'm just saying... given the terms in your title post: "IPL", "2012", and "Team of the year". KKR is just the common sense choice, I figured.

Averaged around 40 at a strike rate of around 130-140. Finished tight games off and turned decent totals into top notch ones. Like his side he slightly faded towards the end of the tournament but he was also arguably the best fielder in the tournament.

I don't think his batting is at all ugly. It's not classical by any means but it's quite extravagant and stylish IMO.

I think he has shots that look incredibly ugly, and shots that look really aesthetically pleasing. He's probably a bit like Pietersen in that he looks ugly when out of form and glorious when in form.

I would have Gayle at any cost. Guy's a match Winner and performs most of the times FFS.

I don't like Gayle because he has an unfair advantage in that he ONLY plays T20 cricket. Play Tests, then you'll make my dream team FFS!

Better than Bradman? He still hasn't hit 6 sixes in an over... "Best batsmen" - he is not 1 man army? This is cheating... He should be banned from Cricket.

As I've said; I'm not gonna play Gayle over Gambhir, if it means I have to play Dhoni over de Villiers. The wicket keeping role is just too crucial.
