How do you rate Shane Warne?

145 test matches, 708 test wickets, a bowling average of 25.41 and a strike rate of 57.4. How do you rate the man many believe is the best spinner there's ever been?

    Poll added.

I personally think he's a tad overrated. Still one of the greatest bowlers of all time mind you.

I did make a thread once on why I though spinners were overrated. But it was 2 and a half years ago and is probably atrocious so will leave it.

On average, spinners are usually more lucky than fast bowlers - those wild hoiks n stuff that pop up in the air - they usually get a lot of those wickets etc...

OMG yes. On thursday I was bowling tight line and length, going at 2 an over (50 over game) then some **** ass off spinner gets 3 wickets at the other end bowling pies (he went for 39 in 6 overs). What a ****!

Despite that their averages are usually much worse. I'm talking ATG test bowlers.

You know which 3 bowlers have bowled the most overs in test cricket. You know which bowlers have leaked the most runs in test cricket. You know which bowlers have got the most wickets in test cricket.

    Murali
    Warne
    Kumble

Is the top 3 for all of them, although not always in that order.

Spinners annoys me the most. I hate all spinners.

Even in my club, spinners are the ones who picks up wicket by bowling short pitched, pies and half volleys.

Yeah sure spinners get easy wickets where as quick bowlers should bowl hard to get wickets...

I'm astonished by the levels of ignorance that I've had to endure while going through some of the posts.

    "Spinners get easy wickets"-

Sure. When you have to bowl 30 or 40 odd overs in the hot sun with your fingers scarred, or wrists hurting so bad as to fall off, it sure is an easy business.
    Retards.

At my level(Quote we play on artificial pitches, where not much help for spin and lots of bounce) bad spinners are so easy to SMASH, i love facing them

but if you get a good one they are very effective.

Quit it with your smart posts, Mahanty. It sure is not true in international cricket, eg: Doherty or Swann barely get any wickets. What I am talking about is playing at a club level. We all know how to play pacers, but nobody knows how to play spinners. Even in my team, leading wicket taker is a spinner. I have 4-5 wickets in 7 games, while that spinner got like 15-20 wickets. It's retarded.

we play on artificial pitches as well, but trust me... its not easy to face spinners. I have played an spinner from the Elite Division... God! He is so hard to play, bowls flippers, doosras, leg break, off spin. You name it!

So we talk about spinners at club levels when the poll is about Shane Warne. Was he a club spinner?

    No.

And just because spinners get most of the wickets in your club, it doesn't mean that spin bowling is an useless art. It makes the batsmen in your club come across as useless tbh

No one knows how to play spin bowling at club level; heck, even International non-subcontinent teams have trouble with it.

I was just raging my rage on spinners. They make hard working bowlers like me and other fast bowlers in the club feel like **** at the end of the day. Yes, if you don't know already, my club is the worst and useless probably. We have only won 1 game out of 10 from which 2 were rainouts and lost 7. There you have it.

Warne is the best spinner ever, but I never liked his hype machine. Murali was overrated (Saqlain was better when he was at his best) but Murali doesn't chuck either. Too many of Warne's teammates have tried to put down Murali and unnecessarily hail Warne as far superior to Murali (someone's mad about not being the all-time leading test wicket taker)

Don't compare spinners with pacers...they fill two different roles and functions in the side. Taking wickets has a lot to do with the pressure coming from both ends. Michael Bevan has an amazing bowling average...but he bowled tons of filth.

You can tell a bad spinner from a good one by the quality of wickets he takes.
