^ Probably a safe bet. I want SA to win though.

I want them to come over to Aus as the #1 side, and then for us to WHITEWASH THEM. And reclaim the #1 test status that is RIGHTFULLY OURS.

You won't whitewash them, South Africa are too strong a side. It's more a case of winning the one game they'll guck up in (which you didn't do last time (cape town)) and then try and get another win in the other two games.

I think if we play at our best we can whitewash them.

A lot depends on Warner's form between here and now and whether or not Phil Hughes can continue his resurgence and bring it to the international stage.

SA are a strong side on paper but put pressure on them and they crumble. We could easily have beaten then 2-0 last series if not for that damn collapse, and if Mussey and Watson hadn't dropped Amla early in his innings.

That really was your chance. You won the second game when both of you played reasonably well, but the Cape Town game was actually there "oh oh, we're ****ing it up" game, when they got bowled out for 96.

Again I think it's unlikely you'll whitewash them, but you'll probably win the series 2-1

^ I don't think that was too big a **** up to be honest. It was just brilliant seam/swing bowling from Watson and Harris.

Our team has improved out of sight since then though. For starters we don't have MJ bowling pies from one end all the time.

Yeah and that's why I think you'll win 2-1. I would have backed SA to beat you in an imaginary 3rd test last time though.

Their batting lineup looks great on paper but it really is very flakey. I don't know how they all average so high. I guess it's because they REALLY pile on the runs against weak teams or in flat conditions when they're on top. Kallis has been inconsistent recently, Smith too. I don't rate Amla too highly and ABDV hasn't performed in a pressure situation for quite some time. Rudolph/Prince are fairly useless & on their last legs I think.

England's bowlers are in for a good time against SA I think. I think it's your batting that will let you down. Cook & Strauss opening against Steyn & Philander makes me think "2 down before 50, 4 down at lunch".

Amla and de Villiers are the only SA batsmen I'm worried about, and perhaps Kallis to an extent.

I'm not too worried about Steyn to be honest, or at least against our openers. Morkel is the guy who'll eat them for breakfast. If Cook has a series where he decides to prod outside off stump (this series) then he'll strugle and if he has a series where he decides to leave it instead (in SA last time) he'll do well.

    I just hope Phillander doesn't take 25 wickets @15.

Don't worry about Morkel, he's rubbish, seriously.

Bowls as many pies as MJ and the rest of what he bowls is just back of a length garbage that Cook will block all day long.

Philander will sort Cook out though.

Morkel will be effective against the lefties, of that I have no doubt.

I seriously hope we prepare some turning tracks though. Don't want to prepare one that will play into Phillanders hands.

What do you think of Strauss? He never was that great, and I think he's past it. Won't be surprised if he's a walking wicket against SA.

    How about you?

He won't get runs against SA. I think he's still got it in him to make runs against slightly poorer nations. I think he might go okay in India.

Would you keep him in the England side if you were selecting the team. If yes, for how long.

I'm tempted to think we should keep him until after the 2013/14 Ashes, but I don't want to be carrying a batsmen for 10 tests against Australia.

Not sure if I'd keep him in the side. It's a bit like the Ponting dilemma with Aus, England doesn't seem to have any batsmen to replace him with.

Aus has a few candidates but nobody who has made so many runs that they've FORCED selection over guys like Ponting & Hussey. I think in the future our batting lineup might well be:

Warner, Hughes, Burns, Clarke, Mussey, Watson, Wade, bowlers.

It's the captaincy I'm worried about tbh. I'm not sure I want Cook to take over right before the Ashes.
