Cricfire's Best Players of the Modern Era

A fun game I thought we could do. We'd need pretty much all our active members to play for it too really work though.

Basically the idea is that everyone compiles a list of who they think the greatest players, who have made their debuts after 1999, are, in order. Just like in this thread, but doing 20 instead of 5. Each player in your list will get points, the higher they're ranked by you, the more points they get. I've explained exactly how many points each player in your list will get below. After everyone has done their list, PM it to me, I'll tally up the points and we'll get a final list, based on everyone's individual list. This final list will represent who the Cricfire members think have been the best players of the very modern era.

When I find out the whole list, I'll post the results. However, I want it to be fun so I'll reveal who came were in stages. So for instance first I'll reveal who came 20th-15th, and then 14th-10th etc...I'll also do a summary on each player, much like Cricinfo player profiles.

How the Point system will work.

Where the person is ranked on your list - how many points they'll get

    1st - 20 points
    2nd - 19 points
    3rd - 18 points
    4th - 17 points
    .
    .
    .
    19th - 2 points
    20th - 1 point

Let me know if you want to do it, or have any more questions.

Cliffs Version: Rank, in order, the best 20 cricketers in your opinion , who made their debut after January 1st, 2000. Base it on their careers so far, and not on potential or form. I.e. what they did iin 2003 holds just as much weight as what they did last week. PM it to me.

It's going to be hard to come up with 20 names... I don't know 20 people on cricfire; plus is it rating on cricketing knowledge?

can't we discuss it here? For example, I believe Kohli should be in the top 5.

No they earn points by where they're ranked in your list.

It's exactly like my list here. Except for players who made their debut in 2000, or later.

    http://cricfire.com/forum/showthread...1571#post81571

Just view it as the best players ever, with a cut off of 12 years ago.

Do we want to do this just for Tests, or for all formats?

I said it's either all formats or just tests. If you want it to be all formats then that's fine. I was just enquiring, jeez.

What I'll probably do in my list is all formats with a stronger rating on test performances.

I've decided to do lists on 25. Is that OK with everyone?

So just to conclude a few things.

We're judging the players on all formats but with more weighting on tests. Imagine you're doing an all time list but the players have to have made their debut on Jan 1st 2000 or later. Don't factor in potential or how you think they'll go in the future. If you are unsure on any players debut dates check their Cricinfo profile which has the dates and links to their first matches in every format.

Apart from that you a free to judge the players how you wish. I.e. you may value match winning qualities a lot while others value consistent performances. How you rate them is up to you as long as you stick to the criteria above.

Finally, don't mention you're list to anyone. If everyone says who they put where it will make the revealing of the results less fun and exciting. Please feel free to discuss how you went about deciding your lists, but don't give examples of who you picked where or anything of the sort.

    Get thinking.
